Religious prophetic voices have been embedded in every social movement throughout history. Rooted in the ethics of justice, compassion, and the sacredness of the world around us, our religious beliefs motivate us to take action to preserve a liveable planet and a free and fair democracy.

Our broad spiritual backgrounds ground us for this challenging work, and we draw on those traditions to offer gatherings and resources that support the work of Third Act.

Third Act Faith’s Coordinating Committee, composed of volunteers across the country, guides our work. Other TAF members contribute their experience and expertise to TA campaigns and TAF events and initiatives.

We reinforce and help amplify the extraordinary work of existing interfaith formations, partnering with such organizations as GreenFaith and Interfaith Power and Light on initiatives that overlap with Third Act’s work. Together we seek to engage individuals and communities of faith in this critical work.

What We Do

Third Act Faith launched in 2021 as one of Third Act’s first affinity working groups, and our work is guided by our Call to Action. We welcome your involvement with the following activities and your help in defining how we move forward with joyful energy.

  • Support Third Act initiatives through a spiritual lens and share them with communities of faith.
  • Work with our own committees to develop relationships with the religious groups and denominations we represent.
  • Hold virtual General Meetings that feature interviews with guests such as climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, Christian author Brian McLaren, and GreenFaith’s Fletcher Harper, as well as with notable TAF members like the late Rabbi Ellen Bernstein. Videos of past General Meetings are on our YouTube channel.
  • Offer periodic spiritual services, such as the virtual interfaith Service of Solidarity before 3.21.23, Third Act’s National Day of Action.
  • Email a monthly news update and post “Going Deep” essays by TAF’s many published and insightful authors.
  • Gather and share climate resources for faith communities.
  • Offer training and materials related to voting and democracy.
  • Provide guidance to help religious groups distinguish between being political and being partisan.
