Using our Life Experience, Skills and Resources to Create a More Helpful Legacy for our Children and Grandchildren
Concerned individuals aged 60 and above across Connecticut are assembling with purpose under the Third Act umbrella – using life experience, skills and resources to create a more hopeful legacy for their children and grandchildren around the sustainability of our democracy and our planet.
Third Act Connecticut members are working to encourage divestiture of carbon-based assets by the state’s banks and insurance companies; reduce federal support for fossil fuel exports; nurture environmental responsibility, equity and justice by the state’s public utilities; build participation in governmental decision-making processes, and broaden voter registration and voting itself.
We seek to be an authentic community, to lend one another courage, and to overcome paralysis and isolation in the face of the most important spiritual and political challenges of our lives. We also hope to evoke and help nurture enduring values — concern for the common good, respect for democratic traditions, reverence for our shared environment and deep social responsibility — that have always marked our state and so many of its people.
We honor the legacy of Native peoples, including Pequots, Mohegans, Paugussets, and Schaghticokes, which have lived on the land now called Connecticut for more than 12,000 years. Their place names still appear across the state, including Shetucket, Quinnebaug, Housatonic, Quinnipiac, Noank, Mystic, and, of course, Connecticut. (Source: State of Connecticut)
