We are a community of elders united to help end the climate crisis and strengthen our democracy. We have the experience, skills, time, resources, and passion to make a difference.
- There are many of us, and we vote. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 10,000 Americans will turn 65 daily through 2030.
- We acknowledge our responsibility for creating the climate crisis, which strongly motivates us to take action, particularly on behalf of our children and grandchildren.
- We lived during the important social changes of the 1960’s and 70’s, so we clearly see the current lack of equality and justice in our country, and we know that citizen action creates change!
- We are choosing to consume less. We value living in thriving, complex ecosystems and understand that our behavior has led us to overconsume, threatening biodiversity.
What We Do
- Pressure the Vermont legislature, governor, and Public Utility Commission to enact strong climate policies, consistent with the Vermont Climate Action Plan.
- Educate our members and collaborate with other groups working toward similar goals.
- Embody our democratic principles of participation, accountability, transparency, and human rights in our everyday lives.
Some of Our 2025 Activities
- Climate Finance: Make Polluters Pay, accelerate renewable energy finance, Move Your Money, Costco/Citi campaign, pension divestment
- Democracy and Voting: special elections, voter registration, rapid response democracy defense activities, gear up for 2026 midterm elections, Senior to Senior
- Power Up Communities: hold PUC accountable, advocate for IRA, advocate for smart solar energy policy
Regional Groups
Third Act Vermont is unique among the working groups, because we are forming smaller groups, based on counties, so members can meet easily in person to take action on local, statewide and national campaigns. Currently we have regional groups in Chittenden, Windsor & Windham (Win-Win), Franklin, Washington, Orange East, & NEK (Orleans, Caledonia, & Essex) counties.
