Eileen Kelly-Aguirre

Eileen lives in the foothills of the Berkshires in Connecticut, but spent a decade in Spain, where her children were born. In her ‘second act,’ she led independent schools and study abroad programs in the US, Europe, and China. While long a follower of Bill McKibben’s writing, Eileen’s own deep learning dive into the climate reality in 2021 spurred her to leave her ‘business as usual’ life behind and devote as much time as possible to helping others grasp the gravity of our climate reality and supporting them in navigating the difficult emotions that follow on the heels of that awareness. She volunteers with Third Act and The Work That Reconnects, has trained with Climate Reality Project, and aspires to launching her own nonprofit for local climate engagement – Heartlift Climate Action.

Kathy Lindquist

Kathy lives in the northshore of MA whose beauty belies its threatened rivers and marshes. Her children inspired her to work to protect the natural world they loved while in her second act, primarily spent teaching. Having made it a point to encourage her students to actively question why things are the way they are and to invite them to envision change, she decided that retirement would be her time to advocate for change. She’s currently working on Voting and Uplifting Democracy campaigns but looks forward to future work on the climate and environment. Who knew elderhood was so full of possibility?

Laurie Rubin

Laurie is a retired northern California teacher, currently living in Vancouver, Washington, who loves Western Redcedars almost as much as California Redwoods. In her first act, she joined the anti-nuclear movement, getting arrested two times for non-violent civil disobedience at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. She has always wanted to engage in both connecting with animals and working for a better world. She mixes her Third Act volunteering with training, competing, playing and hiking with her dogs.

Sue Coleman

Sue lives at the edge of the Blue Ridge mountains in Virginia. A lifetime of outdoors adventures with family, Girl Scouts, and friends nurtured her deep connection and commitment to our marvelous more-than-human world. A speech from Bill McKibben introduced her to Third Act, and an avenue to use her elderhood to change the world for the better.

Peggy Maryanski

Peggy is a California native who has spent a lifetime camping and hiking around the world, and who will stop mid-step to snap a beautiful sky or dew-dropped spiderweb. Although a longtime get-out-the-vote postcard writer, retirement opened the door to climate activism, and Third Act provides opportunties for meaningful volunteerism in both critical areas.

Brian Hicks

Brian lives in Oakland, CA. Been focused on Enviroment since…forever. Lived in Japan from ’85 to ’90 but other than that…Bay Area.
