Meeting first on Zoom and as we are able meeting in regional, face-to-face groups as well we gather regularly to provide inspiration and support to one another. ,

“Authoritarian power is derived from fear of repression, isolation from each other and exhaustion at the utter chaos. We’re already feeling it…Thus, for us to be of any use in a Trump world, we have to pay grave attention to our inner states, so we don’t perpetuate the autocrat’s goals of fear, isolation, exhaustion or constant disorientation.”   From: “Ten ways to be prepared and grounded now that trump has won” by Daniel Hunter

Third Act Illinois convenes this Friday morning “Tea and Coffee” series to give members an opportunity to build those trusting and sustainable relationships essential in these turbulent and isolating times.

Every Friday starting at 9:30 am, ends at 10:45 am.

Democracy and Voting Committee https://thirdact.org/illinois/2025/02/12/preserving-democracy/ Wed, 12 Feb 2025 07:45:41 +0000 https://thirdact.org/illinois/?p=412 Chair: Peg Dublin at pegdublin@gmail.com

Meetings: Last Wednesday of the month at 9:30 am via Zoom

We all knew when the new administration came into office that we would be working overtime to try to safeguard our democracy. Each day the scenario becomes more grotesque.

We also know: As experienced elders, we can contribute to the future of OUR country by using our skills, time, and wisdom. We know our actions make a difference.

We will RESIST!

A recent example: In early February, Third Act member, Diane Fager, participated in a Working Families Party phone bank effort to constituents of 6 congressional swing districts where the representative has remained silent on Trump and Musk’s cuts. together with 500+ people. They were able to speak to 5,400 constituents. Of these, 500 were patched directly to their congressional reps. An impressive effort in both scope and results! Diane says:

“I encourage anyone who has time to do these phone banks via Indivisible or the Working Family Party  since people are angry and willing to do something. It made me feel much more hopeful and happy.”

To activate ourselves, Third Act Illinois – through our Preserving Democracy committee – joins with our current and new allies. And we encourage all our members to participate as they are able in letter-writing, phone-calling, canvassing, defending, demonstrating, and thereby building a new democracy.
