The AFFF Team encourages everyone (especially elders) to put pressure on bad actors in the finance industry – especially Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, Wells Fargo and Vanguard – to stop investing in fossil fuels and move money into clean, green energy solutions instead. Divestment works!!!

Goals and Strategies:

Pressuring the big, dirty banks to stop financing fossil fuels through communications, protest, disruption, birddogging and others means
Leveraging the power of big corporate clients to pressure the dirty banks on climate
Moving our money to align our personal finances with our values through “Responsible Finance” approaches
Increasing investments in clean energy and healthy communities.

Democratize Energy

The Democratize Energy Action Team is working to mobilize Third Act PA members to demand stronger action on climate in Pennsylvania.

We are focusing on the Public Utility Commission as well as state and federal energy policies.

Goals and Strategies:

Power Up Communities! mobilizing Third Act working groups and supporters to advocate and influence the powerful state-level Public Utility Commissions (PUCs) agencies to set strong energy policy at a state level
Educating Third Act supporters to implement the landmark federal Inflation Reduction Act at the state level and ensure the available funds are well-spent on clean energy, energy efficiency, and climate resilience solutions at the state and local level
Advocating for relevant state-level climate and energy legislation.

Democracy and Voting

Goals and Strategies:

Mobilizing for Pennsylvania local, state, and federal elections
Protecting and promoting the right to vote
Engaging in civic life beyond elections, including in local and state policy advocacy and collective action
Advancing “Third Acts” of community engagement, kindness, and mutual aid and practicing democratic principles of participation, consensus building, accountability, transparency, and human rights in our everyday lives.

Third Act PA invites volunteers from our membership to help us organize and build our group’s capacity to carry out important work to defend democracy and protect the climate. Time commitments are flexible, ranging from occasional (2-3 hours a month) or more depending on the flexibility you have.

Campaign Action Teams: all three campaign clusters have lot of opportunities. Let us know your interests and we’ll connect you with the right team.
Member Outreach: we need volunteers to reach out to new TAPA members to share a bit about yourself, your interests in Third Act and find out their interests and where they might like to get involved. If you like to meet new people and have good conversations, this is the job for you!
Regional Representative: as our membership grows across the state we are looking for volunteers to be point persons for making city/county/regional connections to build community and together consider locally relevant actions.
Communications Associate: opportunities abound to write articles, create/share digital media, letters to editors, and such.
Coordinating Committee Member: the committee’s leadership roles rotate periodically; are you interested in helping to steer our movement?

TAPA’s new MYM road show … coming to a town near you?

What is the single most important thing an individual can do to impede the release of more planet-warming CO₂ into earth’s atmosphere? One good answer to that question is: MOVE YOUR MONEY.

To help Third Act Pennsylvania share this message with more Pennsylvanians, Advance Fossil Fuel Free Action Team member Eric Pumroy has developed a short presentation that explores why folks over 60 should consider moving our hard-earned dollars toward greener, cleaner banks and credit cards. In a non-technical and accessible way, Eric first unpacks the MONEY = CARBON equation. Using real-world examples, he then shows why (and how) we can and must stop our money from flowing through the dirty banks into the fossil fuel companies. We refuse to pay for their foul pipelines and drilling projects.

The presentation also serves as a great introduction to the work of Third Act and TAPA for audiences who may want to get involved.
