Third Act SoCal schedules Action Days to focus on particular things we can do that will help candidates in a position to flip the House from red to blue. Our June 5 Action Day focused on post carding. We had enthusiastic participation from a great group of members on two Zoom calls. In total, our collective efforts resulted in 1,375 postcards mailed out to “reluctant voters,” people who are registered to vote but seldom actually vote.
Pre-event activities: Participants began writing postcards before the first Zoom call, setting the tone for a productive day.
First Zoom session: The highlight of the first session was candidate George Whitesides, running in Congressional District 27. He spoke to participants about his goals in Congress. We learned more about his campaign and then shared our creative postcards and baby photos.
Second Zoom session: The second Zoom call featured candidate Will Rollins, running in Congressional District 41. He gave us a tour of his priorities and we felt like we had a good picture of why we had worked so hard during our day. Then we had the joy of announcing the winners of some beautiful prizes.
Award announcements: While some participants could not join the Zoom calls, they were still dedicated to writing postcards. The winners of the first two categories later got a call from our founder, Bill McKibben. We awarded prizes for:
-
Most Postcards Written by an Individual: 70 postcards
-
Most Postcards Written by a Group: 200 postcards
-
Most Creative Postcard
- Best Baby Picture
Overall success: These postcards aim to inspire others to learn about exciting candidates and vote in the November election. Research shows that postcards have an impact, so we know some of our postcard recipients will be going to the polls due to our efforts. We are all winners for contributing to this significant outreach.
