Huge Turn-out at PSC Public Hearing Opposing New Gas Plant

On March 25, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission held a public hearing on WEPCO’s proposal for massive new fossil gas infrastructure in Oak Creek, WI. (WEPCO is the investor-owned utility, also called WEC or WE Energies, that serves SE Wisconsin.)

Although the hearing lasted some 8 hours, so many people showed up (see photo in this CUB story) that dozens, including State Representatives and County Board members, were turned away at the end of the night. The great majority of those who got to speak opposed WEPCO’s proposal.

We are delighted to report that TAWI member Gloria Randall-Hewitt, shown speaking to PSC Commissioners in this photo, was among the first to speak. Moreover, a portion of Gloria’s comment appears in the 3/26 WPR news story titled “Natural gas opponents call on PSC to block largest piece of We Energies’ $2B plan.” Check out this story: it provides substantial details on both the WEPCO proposal and this hearing.

We are glad to announce that, due to the unmet demand for opportunity to be heard, the PSC extended the deadline for online comments from March 27 to April 7! So, if you have not yet submitted a comment on this Oak Creek Gas Plant proposal, please do so soon by going to this link. (For more information about what and how to submit, go to the “April 7” item on the TAWI Events page.) Thank you. Our voices matter!
