Trump recently signed an Executive Order directing the US Attorney General to find a way to stop the enforcement of state laws that make Big Oil pay for damages caused by the climate crisis (Climate Superfunds).
Needless to say, we are not rolling over, but will work harder than ever to establish California’s Make Polluters Pay Superfund bill SB 684 (Menjivar) and AB 1243 (Addis), to make the fossil fuel companies pay their fair share.
What you can do:
Sacramento legislators have a big role to play in passing this bill. The bill needs to get through the judiciary committee, where both Senator Ashby and Assembly member Niello serve. If it gets through their committees, the bill will need the approval of two thirds of both houses, so Assembly member Nguyen’s vote is also critical.
If you haven’t contacted Senator Ashby’s office, do so! Urge her to vote YES on SB 684. Get calls and emails out to Senator Ashby (916-651-4008) and Senator Niello (916-651-4006). Tell them to vote yes on SB 684 (Menjivar). They both serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee so their votes are critical to the bill’s passage.
